GROWTH MINDSET

We strongly believe in the importance of Growth Mindset at Greatfields. We can all improve and learn from our mistakes but only if we have the correct mindset. We want our students to relish getting stuck and to learn from their mistakes – if you are not making mistakes then you are not learning!

There are two types of mindset: Fixed and Growth. Many of us have a fixed mindset – we don’t like to be criticised, we stay in our comfort zone and we are happy with the way things are. However, if we want to improve we need to adopt a Growth Mindset whereby we are always looking for ways to improve.

We do a lot of explicit work surrounding Growth Mindset with our students and are trying to create a classroom culture in which making mistakes is encouraged and students don’t give up as soon as they find something hard. There is a lot of research surrounding this idea. If you would like to know more please click on some of the links below.
