(BTEC Tech Award)
We believe Creative Media gives students the tools to analyse, create and challenge the media that shapes our lives. The Media department values a curriculum that promotes diversity, representation and independent thought. By recognising each learner’s individual needs, we deliver content and teaching methods that both support and stretch students, encouraging them to think critically as well as creatively.
Over the two years, students study a range of media products across three components:
Year 10:
- Component 1: Exploring Media Products
- Component 2: Developing Media Production Skills (introductory projects)
Year 11:
- Component 2: Extended media production project (print, moving image or interactive)
- Component 3: Creating a Media Product in Response to a Brief (externally assessed)
Students develop practical skills in digital design, photography, video editing and desktop publishing using industry-standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro and InDesign. They also learn how to research, plan and evaluate their work, building a professional portfolio of media products.
Our curriculum reflects the diversity of our school community and encourages learners to consider how media can represent different voices and identities. Trips and enrichment activities have included visits to media exhibitions, film screenings, and creative workshops with industry professionals.
