It has been a challenging time for us as a community and I am extremely grateful to all of you for the part you have played in helping to keep the school safe by not sending your child in with symptoms and self isolating when asked to do so by the school. The result of this is that we have been able to keep the school fully open throughout this term, with minimal disruption to students&#8217; learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Moving forward, we will continue to face challenges over the coming months as the rates of infection continue to rise in this area. Mass testing is being introduced into schools next term which means the following:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>All staff will be tested on site every week to ensure there are no asymptomatic cases on site.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If there is a positive case in school, students or staff who had close contact with the positive case can be tested each day on site rather than having to isolate. If the daily test is negative they will be able to go lessons; if they test positive they will be sent home to isolate.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents will be asked to sign a consent form at the start of next term, giving the school permission to carry out these tests. The tests are of course voluntary but I would strongly urge parents to engage with the testing programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, we are asking all students to be tested between 28th December and 31st December at your local testing centre, regardless of whether or not they have symptoms. This is to ensure that we can identify any asymptomatic cases amongst students before the start of term. All staff will be tested on 2nd January for the same reason. I have attached a letter for the Director of Public Health explaining the testing process in more detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our absolute priority next term is to be able to keep the school open and to avoid Covid infections entering the school. The most effective way of doing this is through regular testing, as outlined above. I will provide more details of the testing process at the start of next term. Can I also please encourage you to ensure that your child comes to school with a face mask each day. The majority of students are wearing face masks in the corridors and canteen, but there are still some students who are still not regularly wearing face masks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, I would like to wish you and your families a safe and restful festive period. I know that this will not be a normal Christmas period but I hope you are able to safely spend time with your loved ones.
