{"id":8618,"date":"2020-02-27T12:06:59","date_gmt":"2020-02-27T12:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greatfieldsschool.com\/?p=8618"},"modified":"2020-02-27T12:12:46","modified_gmt":"2020-02-27T12:12:46","slug":"opera-madam-butterfly-by-giacomo-puccini","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greatfieldsschool.com\/?p=8618","title":{"rendered":"Opera Madam Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">During the evening of Monday 24th February, fifteen students and staff went to the ENO\u2019s London Coliseum theatre to see Giacomo Puccini\u2019s tragic opera\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Madam Butterfly<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Before watching the performance, students were fortunate to gain additional insight into the opera and composer through a pre-performance talk about the play\u2019s context and background. This helped set the scene, story and themes which are based on real events from the early twentieth century.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Although quite a lengthy performance, pupils were highly engaged by ENO\u2019s use of traditional Japanese costumes, theatrical staging and dramatic lighting to build emotion for the audience.
