Carmen is an opera by Georges Bizet based on an 1845 novella by French dramatist Prosper M\u00e9rim\u00e9e. The title character, a wild Spanish gypsy, is unscrupulous in matters of the law and of the heart. The opera charts the development of Carmen as she seeks to find real love in a world filled with lust and patriarchy.
