{"id":8483,"date":"2020-01-14T10:21:34","date_gmt":"2020-01-14T10:21:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greatfieldsschool.com\/?p=8483"},"modified":"2020-01-14T14:27:16","modified_gmt":"2020-01-14T14:27:16","slug":"year-9-visit-st-pauls-cathedral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greatfieldsschool.com\/?p=8483","title":{"rendered":"Year 9 visit St. Paul&#8217;s Cathedral."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday 9th January, twenty one Year 9 students visited St. Paul\u2019s Cathedral to participate in a poetry workshop run in partnership with the Literacy Trust\u2019s Young City Poets project. During the session students toured the cathedral\u2019s beautifully ornate crypt, quire and nave and explored ideas of metaphysical poetry with their guide. As part of their morning, students explored ideas of the metaphysical in relation to the poetry of John Donne, a renowned poet and former Dean of St. Paul\u2019s. Many students were amazed by the stunning architecture, mosaics and artwork within the venue. Teachers heard lots of students making comments such as \u201cWow!\u201d, \u201cAmazing\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019s so beautiful\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the morning, students took the opportunity of climbing the 528 steps up to the Golden Gallery which offers outstanding views of the city. The experience exhilarated students and certainly tested their nerves at such great heights. One student said \u201cI really enjoyed climbing the stairs up to the top. At one point I was a bit shaky but I\u2019m pleased that I got to see the incredible views of London.\u201d Another student said \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve really achieved something by climbing all that way to the top.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now that students have completed their session at St. Paul\u2019s, professional poet, Antosh Wojcik, will be visiting Greatfields English lessons soon.
