Last Thursday, 8\u00a0students consisting of 4 students from each year group, were handpicked to represent Greatfields School at the first maths competition that was held at the Albany school. It was an opportunity for our students to compete with other schools from Partnership Learning.<\/p>\n

The competition started at 10am and consisted of a quiz of 7 intense rounds for 2 hours. Each round focused on tough problem solving questions relating to a particular topic in the mathematics KS3 syllabus. The members of each team had to collaborate with each other to come up with solutions to questions that were being projected onto a board in a given time limit, which varied depending on the difficulty of the problem.<\/p>\n

Our students sustained an intense focus throughout the two hours and showed no sign of mental fatigue as they met each problem head on. Despite encountering questions from topics they have never covered in school they put up an incredible effort and showed deft problem solving skills even when they were not able to arrive at a final answer.<\/p>\n

The day offered them their first taste of a highly competitive environment relating to mathematics and has urged them on to raise their quick thinking ability for future competitions of this nature.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
