On Friday some of our Year 8 pupils were invited back to The Goldsmiths\u2019\u2019 Centre to take part in a jewellery making workshop in association with London Craft Week. The pupils had great fun learning how to cut metal and create their very own piece of jewellery. They learnt how to use a jewellers coping saw and were guided through steps taken to transfer designs onto metal, cut out sections of metal and use a jewellers bench. Our workshop host, Richard, also explained the different parts involved in goldsmithing from <\/span>mounting, silversmithing, hand engraving, stone setting, enamelling, valuing, and finishing. Both our hosts <\/span>Maggie Connolly, Youth Development and Engagement Officer, and Richard commented on how skilled our pupils were; they even managed to teach Miss Knight and Miss Parkin how to cut copper more accurately. Following the workshop the pupils then visited the \u201cHow to build a Goldsmith\u201d exhibition where they got to meet and talk to jewellery designers about how they create their designs. The pupils all commented on how much fun they had doing something interactive and that they had learnt more about the jewellery making process.
