This term Art Club are taking part in a very exciting project within our borough. We have been invited to paint the hoarding that will be erected around the building works surrounding Greatfields School. We are so delighted to have been asked by Bouygues Construction company and Barking Council to design and create the hoarding! This is an extraordinary opportunity for us to get our creative skills out into the local community and create artwork for all of our community to enjoy. The project allows us to create interest and life in an area which is, to some extent, neglected at present. The local Council have asked us to focus our designs for the hoarding on “Notable Historic Women from Barking and Dagenham”, in celebration of Women’s Suffrage, 100 years since women got the right to vote. We have therefore picked 8 famous local women: Jo Richardson, Mary Wollstonecraft, Annie Huggett, Elizabeth Fry, St Ethelburga, Sandie Shaw, Vera Lynn and \u00a0Eva Hart. As this is a community based project we will also be working closely with Eastside Community Heritage Museum and East End Women’s Museum.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the past few weeks pupils have been working on painting St Ethelburga and Sandie Shaw. Miss Knight would like to say what a fantastic job the pupils have done so far and it is really great so have so many of our pupils eager to participate and support each other in this project.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
