She discussed University and student life with our pupils and spoke about notable Alumni members of UEL, including: musician Tinchy Stryder, British Sprinter Adam Gemili, Politicians Rupa Huq and Imran Khan. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"en-GB\">Students learnt about the structure of a 3-year degree programme, a master\u2019s degree (which can take 1- 2 years to complete) and a PHD. They were also informed about specific degrees which take longer, such as: <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">dentistry, medicine and Architecture. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"en-GB\">Sophia discussed the costs of studying at degree level, with the average yearly cost of tuition fees being \u00a39,250 and extra costs including rent and living expenses. Sophia explained there are specific loans and grants (money given by universities and the government to support studying that doesn\u2019t need to be repaid) that students can apply for to support their educational costs. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"en-GB\">Students were advised on myths about university and were surprised to learn that universities not only take in account A Level results but also your GCSE results. They were also shown the array of extracurricular activities available at university and the importance of attending a selection to develop your communication skills and additional abilities. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"en-GB\">Sophia also highlighted the importance of completing work by set deadlines and ensuring independent research is completed by pupils if they are to obtain a good degree level. Sophia linked this to importance of completing HW tasks at school, learning the skills to complete independent studying whilst at school supports your development needed to succeed at university. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"en-GB\">We are very excited by the prospect of working closely with UEL and developing a partnership to support our pupils\u2019 progression into Higher Education.
