On Thursday members of Art Club took part in a fashion workshop. Amin, founder of the fashion brand 1.61, came into to speak to pupils about the fashion industry and how clothes are made, from initial design concept to cut and production. Pupils were lucky enough to view some of Amin’s designs, including his latest jacket featured in Vogue. Amin’s brand is a unisex collection based on the idea of utilitarianism; his collections focus on proportion and fit to achieve a timeless look. With this idea in mind Amin explained the importance of the initial stages of design: drawing your design, creating a pattern cut and deciding where seams and panels will be placed. Pupils then got the opportunity to design their own t-shirts and create pattern cuts. They were given the task of deciding how panels will fit together on their t-shirt and where they want seams to be sewn. Amin also showed them specific measurements that need to be considered when creating clothing. Next week Amin will lead a session in which \u00a0pupils will take part in the cutting, sewing and embellishing of their t-shirt designs.<\/p>\n
