The first workshop had students looking at the art of debating and what made a good arguer. This went into more than just everyday arguing and focussed particularly on academic debate. Two students from Greatfields were then asked to participate in an open debate with the other two schools. During lunch, students were behaved impeccably, being very polite to the university canteen staff as well as queuing politely alongside other university students. The first tutorial session took place at the university, in a lecture theatre. Students sat in the same seats that university students had sat in hours before and got a real feeling for what it would be like to sit in a lecture. It was here where they were introduced to their course teacher, Tom. Tom introduced the module of philosophy, more particularly paternalism to the students as the course they would be doing over the next few months. The first tutorial defined and discussed moral law, perfect obligations and imperfect obligations, referencing famous philosophers such as Immanuel Kant and Jeremy Bentham.
