{"id":12991,"date":"2022-12-19T10:49:06","date_gmt":"2022-12-19T10:49:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greatfieldsschool.com\/?p=12991"},"modified":"2022-12-19T10:49:08","modified_gmt":"2022-12-19T10:49:08","slug":"end-of-term","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greatfieldsschool.com\/?p=12991","title":{"rendered":"End of Term"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dear parent\/carer,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we near the end of term, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your support, especially over the past couple of weeks with the disruption caused by high levels of staff absence and the snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In many ways this term has felt like a return to normality for our school community. Covid restrictions have been lifted, meaning that school trips and sports fixtures have been able to go ahead as normal, and we have also been able to start the year in our new building without any of the disruptions of previous years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This term has seen the opening of our Sixth Form, and I am extremely proud of the positive start all of the students in the Sixth Form have made, and what brilliant role models they have been to the rest of the students. I hope that many of our younger students have seen the opening of the Sixth Form and now aspire themselves one day to join the Sixth Form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Year 11 have been busy preparing for their mock exams, and I have been impressed with the growing levels of independence and hard work that they have been displaying this term. They know how hard they will have to work in the coming months if they are to achieve the grades they want to be able to compete with other students in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have had a number of visits organised this term, including visits to the English National Opera; the science museum for all of Year 9; Spitalfields Market for our Food Tech students; the Dominion Theatre to see live poetry performed by some of the country\u2019s most famous poets; the Tate Modern gallery; and a tour of King\u2019s College London for a group of our Year 12 students. Thank you to all of the staff who have taken the time to organise these trips and to the students\u2019 whose behaviour is always exemplary on these trips. They are a real credit to the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the sporting front, we have had great success. The Sixth Form basketball academy team have made an unbeaten start to the season and sit proudly at the top of the league table; our Year 8 and 9 girls won the basketball borough cup, which was an exceptional achievement; the Year 9 boys unfortunately lost in the borough cup final but played brilliantly in the tournament to reach the final .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Winter Showcase at the start of December was probably my personal highlight of the term. Over 80 students took part, and we were treated to a diverse range of singing, dancing, music and drama and it showcased not only the vast talent we have in school, but also the hard work and dedication that students had put in to prepare for the show. Special thanks must go to Mr Bagley for directing the show, and to Ms White, Mr Summers and Ms Haywood for all of the work in preparing the students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This has been a long term for both students and staff, and I would like to thank everyone for their constant hard work and good humour throughout.
