{"id":10799,"date":"2021-05-28T13:50:08","date_gmt":"2021-05-28T12:50:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greatfieldsschool.com\/?p=10799"},"modified":"2021-05-28T13:50:10","modified_gmt":"2021-05-28T12:50:10","slug":"places-for-girls-construction-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greatfieldsschool.com\/?p=10799","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Places For Girls&#8217; Construction Project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Willmott Dixon, a local construction company, have recently been working with our school to deliver a Women in Construction Enrichment programme for Year 10 female students, which took place over 5 weeks in April and May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students were asked to design, cost, plan and present their dream home design, set against a budget. Each week the students were joined by female Willmott Dixon colleagues who work in the discipline relevant for each stage of the project such as design, sustainability, estimating and planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project was designed to help the students build confidence, understand the importance of communication, teamwork, time management and presentation. As well as raising the profile of construction roles and encouraging women into the industry. At the end of the programme, the 17 students presented their designs to a panel of female Willmott Dixon employees who were blown away by the amount of effort, thought and the incredibly high standard all the students achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the students commented, \u201cthis experience has really opened my eyes, I thought construction was only for men but being able to meet all the great strong females over the last 5 weeks has made me think anything is possible. Construction offers amazing careers and progression.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Natalie Sidey, Social Value Manager at Willmott Dixon said, \u201cIt was fantastic to see how all of the students completely embraced the challenge and developed key skills across the 5 weeks. The programme showed them that anything is possible and highlighted the vast array of jobs available in construction for both females and males alike.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Sterling, at Greatfields School said, \u201cIt has been such a pleasure to be able to build a positive working relationship with Willmott Dixon. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the opportunities to meet a range of female employers in the construction industry. It was inspiring to hear from such ambitious women, sharing their pathways and top tips into the workforce.
