This has been an incredibly tough winter for all of us and hopefully we are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Last night the government announced that all schools will be reopening the week commencing 8th March, which is wonderful news for our community. As you can imagine, a lot of information and guidance came out last night and there is a lot of planning that needs to be done in the coming weeks to ensure a safe return for our students. I will be sending out more details about the plans next week, but I just wanted to outline some key points:

1) Before students return to school they will need to be tested. This testing will be done on the school site. As you can imagine this will present some logistical challenges and will mean that not all year groups will be able to return on Monday 8th March as we won’t be able to test all of the students on one day. We will prioritise our Year 11 students initially, to ensure they can return as swiftly as possible and I am hoping that all students will be back in school by Thursday 11th March at the latest. I will send out more details next week of when each year group can return.

2) Once students have returned they will need to receive two further tests on site over the following couple of weeks. Again, I will be sending out more information about the testing process in the next few days.

3) The guidance states that students will be expected to wear face masks in all communal areas, including classrooms, when they return. It is vital that you ensure your child has a supply of masks and that they bring a mask to school each day. I understand the difficulties of students wearing a mask during lessons, and I will continue to review this approach. I would ask for your support with this.

4) Students’ timetables and classes will be unchanged and they will continue to be based with their form group for their lessons in order to reduce transmission and movement around the building.

5) If your child is displaying any symptoms (cough, high temperature, loss of taste or smell) you will be expected to keep them at home and either have them tested or isolate for ten days. Please alert the school immediately if your child tests positive for Covid 19.

I will send out further details regarding testing and exact dates for students’ return as soon as I can.

My warmest wishes to you all.

Mr Paul

Dear parent/carer, I hope you and your families are safe and well.
