We want to promote better access to all career pathways and help our students to make good choices when planning the next steps of their career.<\/p>\n<p>Our programme of careers education will provide students with opportunities to develop and apply the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to make realistic career decisions, focusing on the following areas of provision:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing skills and raising student aspirations; looking at their strengths and weaknesses<\/li>\n<li>Considering equality of opportunity in careers and making informed life choices<\/li>\n<li>Exploring employability skills<\/li>\n<li>Identifying strengths, career options as part of the GCSE\/Post 16 options process<\/li>\n<li>Understanding how to access and be prepared for the world of work.<\/li>\n<li>Knowing how to research careers information and different options and pathways<\/li>\n<li>Giving careers guidance that encourages life-long learning and improves students social capital<\/li>\n<li>Access to an independent and impartial careers advisor who will guide them in making well informed decisions along the way<\/li>\n<li>Understanding the importance of work-related skills; enterprise activities; voluntary opportunities; work placements and meeting a wide range of local and national employers and agencies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">&#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong><u>Year 10 Work Experience:<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n<div class=\"x_x_elementToProof\"><span class=\"x_x_ContentPasted0\">In Year 10 students will be given the opportunity to experience the world of work through participating in work experience. Students will be off timetable for one week in order to attend their work experience placement. This is a great opportunity to take students out of their comfort zone, meet people of different age groups, try out a variety of work-based tasks and experience working with a supervisor. The effectiveness of our provision is inspected and audited by the Careers and Enterprise Company using the Compass Careers Benchmark Tool. This tool is used by schools and colleges in England to support the analysis and evaluation of careers activity against the eight benchmarks of best practice (known as the Gatsby Benchmarks). The Careers and Enterprise Company coordinate the Audit deadlines. This ensures the development of our careers strategy is ongoing to ensure best practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Current Review Completed: <\/strong>December 2023<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date of our next review: <\/strong>December 2024<\/p>\n<p>In line with the recommendations set out in Gatsby Benchmark 1, we as a school plan to review the published information on an annual basis.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">&#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"x_elementToProof\"><strong><u>Careers guidance infor<\/u>m<u>ation for teachers:<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>All subject staff should link curriculum\u00a0with careers, even on courses that are not specifically occupation-led. For example, STEM\u00a0subject teachers should highlight the relevance of STEM\u00a0subjects for a wide range of career paths. and that there are\u00a0many paths to success.<\/li>\n<li>Subject teachers play a crucial role \u2013 students are 18 times\u00a0more likely to be\u00a0motivated to learn if their teachers understand their hopes and dreams.<\/li>\n<li>When staff emphasise the relevance of their subjects to future careers and opportunities, they create social capital for young people with limited networks.<\/li>\n<li>According to ICEGS, improving career guidance in secondary schools and colleges can lead to better student outcomes, raising aspirations and increasing engagement with education.<\/li>\n<li>The Skills Builder \u2013 Better Prepared Report states that strong essential skills such as speaking, listening, and staying positive can enhance young people&#8217;s employment prospects.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">&#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<div><b>How to embed Careers within your curriculum:<\/b><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Emphasise the employability skills being developed in your lesson, such as communication, teamwork, creativity, and leadership.<\/li>\n<li>As an introduction or conclusion, provide examples of potential future job roles related to the skills being taught.<\/li>\n<li>Learn about your students&#8217; aspirations for the future and discuss these within lessons, where and when relevant.<\/li>\n<li>Invite a guest speaker to discuss their career and how your subject influenced their professional path.<\/li>\n<li>Share stories and experiences from your own career journey.<\/li>\n<li>Display posters which highlight the skills and career For example, STEM\u00a0subject teachers should highlight the relevance of STEM\u00a0subjects for a wide range of career paths. Study programmes should also reflect the importance of Maths and English as a key expectation from\u00a0employers. &#8211; Importance of embedding Careers within the curriculum: Students are\u00a0more engaged in their learning when they see the relevance of their studies to their own and others&#8217; lives. Students become\u00a0more ambitious, realising that perceived obstacles can be overcome and that there are\u00a0many paths to success. Subject teachers play a crucial role \u2013 students are 18 times\u00a0more likely to be\u00a0motivated to learn if their teachers understand their hopes and dreams. When staff emphasise the relevance of their subjects to future careers and opportunities, they create social capital for young people with limited networks. According to ICEGS, improving career guidance in secondary schools and colleges can lead to better student outcomes, raising aspirations and increasing engagement with education. The Skills Builder \u2013 Better Prepared Report states that strong essential skills such as speaking, listening, and staying positive can enhance young people&#8217;s employment prospects. &#8211; How to embed Careers within your curriculum: Emphasise the employability skills being developed in your lesson, such as communication, teamwork, creativity, and leadership. As an introduction or conclusion, provide examples of potential future job roles related to the skills being taught.
