Our lessons are designed to encourage our students to make connections and apply their skills to real life scenarios. Our enthusiastic teaching aims to inspire our students to become passionate lifelong learners of mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>Our Greatfields Mathematics curriculum is designed to give students the opportunity to:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems, so our pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge more rapidly and accurately.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of smaller steps and preserving in seeking solutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Can communicate, justify, argue, and prove using correct mathematical vocabulary \u2013 with regular opportunities for collaboration in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Develop our student\u2019s resilience, confidence, and independence, so that they contribute positively to the life of the school and the wider local community and environment.<\/p>\n<p>Based on extensive research we use a concrete-pictorial-abstract approach to support students to understand the maths they are learning and to be able to apply it elsewhere. We actively use visuals, representations, and manipulatives to help pupils better understand mathematics and to make important links between different concepts. The \u201csmall step\u201d approach means nothing is left to chance \u2013 all curriculum objectives are broken down into accessible parts that build on each other so that the learning journey is complete.<\/p>\n<p>Our schemes of learning cover all the KS3 National Curriculum by the end of Year 9, and all of GCSE by the end of Year 11. Our schemes consider the overlap between KS2 and KS3 providing ample opportunity to revise and build on every aspect of the curriculum, including the fundamental building blocks of mathematics such as Place Value and the Four Operations.<\/p>\n<p>We also offer A-Level maths for those that wish to continue to study maths after GCSEs.
